DAYTON, Ohio - It's "destination Donoritaville" Thursday, July 3 for all "Parrot Heads" who want to help boost the blood supply before the busy July 4th holiday weekend. Community Blood Center (CBC) will host a "Patriotic Parrot Head Party" at the downtown Dayton Donor Center with free ice cream, an outdoor beach party, the Parrot Head "Donoritaville" t-shirt, and a chance to win a 2014 Chevy Cruze.
This year the traditional Parrot Head Beach Party at Dayton CBC has moved to mid-summer with an outdoor picnic kicking off the Independence Day weekend. There will be a tent with island decorations, CBC staff will "go native" by wearing tropical garb, and the outdoor Donor Café will serve beach party refreshments.
Drew Allen Hilgeford of the Airway Road Dairy Queen will be the Jimmy Buffett "ice cream man" of the outdoor Donor Café tiki bar serving free Dairy Queen treats to all registered donors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tropical-colored "Donoritaville - Relax, lei back… Givin' is easy!" t-shirt is also free to everyone who registers to donate. It features a parrot in straw hat and lei clutching an ice cream cone!
The Parrot Head Party is a way to encourage blood donations and thank donors during the July 4th holiday weekend when many donors are vacationing or busy with Independence Day activities. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment at www.DonorTime.com.
The Dayton CBC will operate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 3 and all CBC Donor Centers will be closed on Friday, July 4th with no mobile blood drives scheduled. The Springfield CBC Donor Center will hold a special "Save-A-Life Saturday" blood drive from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, July 5.
A summer donation will also put donors in the running for a new car. A 2014 Chevrolet Cruze is the grand prize in the CBC "Summer Cruze-In 2014 Blood Drive."
Anyone age 18 and older who registers to donate at any CBC Donor Center or CBC mobile blood drive May 30 through Sept. 30 will be automatically entered in the drawing. The Cruze's "champagne silver" color is a toast to CBC's "50 Years of Saving Lives" anniversary celebration in September. Official rules are available at www.givingblood.org.
