My Blood, Your Blood is a multi-media science education package that will create a positive reaction to learning, and explain the blood donation process on a level that children can understand.
Another great year is underway and Community Blood Center is excited about what lies ahead for our high school blood donors. First of all, we have a different theme for our high schools, and it was designed by one our SOS Scholarship winners, Brent Stammen from Versailles High School. Our theme is, Keeping the Beat, Give Blood. Shirts will come in two colors for the year. In the Fall, our shirts will be gray, and in the Spring, our shirts will be an ocean blue. Last year, over 10,000 students registered to give blood.
We have new and exciting programs to offer our high school students. First of all, we’re introducing our Red Honor Cord Program. This program is designed to give Red Honor Cords for graduating seniors. During your high school career, students registering to donate at 3 or more blood drives will earn a Red Honor Cord for graduation, per your high school graduation policy. This is the Criteria for Red Honor Cord:
- Automatically enrolled when you register to donate blood at your high school blood drive.
- Must register to donate 3 or more times during high school career.
- Students may donate at their high school, any community blood drive, or at one of our CBC branch locations to qualify for a Red Honor Cord.
Another program we are continuing is our Save Our Supply (SOS) Program. This is the 5th year for this program, and the results have benefited everyone. Along with our business partner, Vectren, we are please to award five $1,000.00 scholarships per school year. Any high school senior whose high school schedules a blood drive with CBC, is qualified to enter. There will be information on both programs at your high school blood drive.
New schools have been added to the schedule this year, and Community Blood Center is thankful for our new as well as our loyal donors. Remember, before you donate, please drink plenty of water several days before you know you are going to donate, eat a well balanced dinner the night before your donation, get plenty of rest, and eat a good, healthy breakfast on the day of your donation. Following these simple instructions will help make a successful donation.
I hope this is an exciting year for all of you. Make sweet memories and enjoy what some would call the ‘happiest moments of your lives.’ Take some time to help someone else and know that when you donate one pint of blood, you have helped save the lives of up to three people.
Good Luck,
Cristina M. Pickle
