DAYTON, Ohio - Community Blood Center needs a team effort and a strong finish to January National and Ohio Blood Donor Awareness Month.

CBC will host a "Join the Team" blood drive Friday, Jan. 29 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dayton CBC Donor Center, 349 South Main St. Everyone who registers to donate will get a Chic-Fil-A $5 gift card, the new "Fight. Heal. Give" face mask, the "Team Donor - Blood Donor Awareness Month" t-shirt and free COVID-19 antibody testing.

CBC is reminding donors there is no deferral or delay in donating blood or COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Make an appointment to donate at or call (937) 461-3220.

The traditional challenges of winter emphasized during January Blood Donor Awareness Month are more severe this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A persistent problem since school resumed in January has been high school blood drive cancellations, particularly on Fridays. Strong Friday collections are needed to boost hospital supply through the weekend when CBC has limited hours and fewer blood drives.

CBC's goals for Blood Donor Awareness Month included registering at least 300 donors per day. At the midpoint of January CBC averaged 194 donors per day. During the third week of January the average rose to 262 donors per day, but still fell short of the 300-donor goal.
