KEEP HOLIDAY SUPPLY BRIGHT AT DAYTON CBC ‘CHRISTMAS IN JULY’ BLOOD DRIVE

June 25, 2021

DAYTON, Ohio - Donors can unwrap their Christmas spirit and help deliver a safe blood supply through the July 4th holiday weekend by giving the gift of life at the "Christmas in July Blood Drive" July 2, July 3 and July 5 at the Dayton CBC, 349 S. Main St.

Everyone who registers to donate Friday, July 2 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 3 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday, July 5 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dayton CBC can choose a surprise gift from the CBC Christmas tree. The minimum value is a $10 gift card. You might grab a Kroger $50 gift card or a YETI Rambler Tumbler. All registered donors also get the "Blood Donors are the GOAT - Greatest of All Time" t-shirt.

Appointments are encouraged and walk-ins are accepted as space allows. Schedule online at www.DonorTime.com or call (937) 461-3220.

CBC faced a severe blood shortage after the Memorial Day and there is concern that without increased collections a similar shortage could follow the July 4th weekend.  There are only six mobile blood drives scheduled between July 2 and July 5 and CBC is closed for the Sunday, July 4th holiday.

Registering at least 350 donors per day to meet the needs of area hospitals and collecting enough type O blood for regional demand has been a struggle throughout the pandemic and into the summer.

Many corporate and community blood drives are not returning to full capacity or frequency due to remote work and other lingering COVID-19 restrictions. The easing of many COVID-19 restrictions is encouraging more summer activities and vacation travel, which are traditional seasonal distractions from donating. This comes as emergency room blood usage increases at area hospitals.

CBC is welcoming first-time donors and new blood drive sponsors. Call (937) 461-3220 to learn how you can help.

Blood donation requirements:  Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name.  Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.  Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds (you may have to weigh more, depending on your height), and be in good physical health.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.  Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org. Make an appointment at www.DonorTime.com or call (937) 461-3220.
