DAYTON, Ohio - Community Blood Center will thank donors for supporting the blood supply and celebrate veterans for their service to our country with the "Honor A Vet Blood Drive" Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 11-13 at the Dayton CBC Donation Center, 349 S. Main St.

Everyone who registers to donate Veterans Day, Nov. 11 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 13 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dayton CBC will receive a Kroger $10 gift card.  Veterans who register to donate will receive both the Kroger $10 gift card and a Dunkin' Donuts $10 gift card.

All registered donors also get the "Hometown Hero" fleece blanket. Appointments are encouraged and walk-ins are accepted as space allows. Schedule online at or call (937) 461-3220.

Blood type O remains in low supply and CBC is depending on donors to prevent an emergency shortage.

Approximately 38% of the population has type O-positive while only 7% has type O-negative.  Both types are in constant demand. Type O positive can be transfused to patients with any positive blood type. O-negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused immediately to any patient in need.

CBC must prepare for both pandemic-related delays or disruptions in the blood drive schedule and for the seasonal challenges that lie ahead.  People have less time to donate during the holidays and the coming of winter brings the potential for weather disruptions.

CBC needs new donors, including new platelet and plasma donors, and new blood drive sponsors. Call (937) 461-3220 to learn how you can help.
