FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 27, 2009
Community Blood Center (CBC) and American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life are honored to present “Fight Cancer Day” at CBC – Dayton, 349 S. Main St., on Friday, May 1 in honor of Steve Kerrigan, K99’s morning show host, and all those who wage war against cancer.
Cancer patients are the number one recipient group of blood and blood products. While trauma patient may use a lot of blood at one time, cancer patients use a lot of blood over a period of time. Chemotherapy can damage blood cells even as it destroys cancer cells. It’s critical that blood is always available to area patients who need it in their fight for life.
You can support cancer patients with a blood donation at CBC and support the fight against cancer by making a contribution to ACS Relay For Life. ACS will be at CBC Dayton on Friday, May 1 to answer questions, accept donations and encourage donors to participate in Relay For Life. CBC-Dayton is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 1. Schedule permitting, Steve Kerrigan may stop in to talk with blood donors.
Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 16 years of age (16 year old donors must have parental consent: form available at or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
