JUNE 14 WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY IS A CALL FOR SOLIDARITY

June 13, 2022

DAYTON, Ohio - Community Blood Center joins countries around the world in celebrating June 14 World Blood Donor Day. The annual observance is to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for helping save lives.

The 2022 theme is "Donating Blood is an Act of Solidarity - Join the Effort and Save Lives."

"World Blood Donor Day is an opportunity to thank our many donors who selflessly help save lives and encourage more people to start their own donation journey," said CBC/CTS COO Diane Wilson.

"This is a critical time for our blood supply. We've seen events across the country that caused high demand, and there's been a shortage of type O in our own region. We know the pace of donations slows during the summer months. World Blood Donor Day is an ideal time to make an appointment to donate."

CBC is encouraging more donors with "Fueling Up Weekend" Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 at the Dayton CBC Donation Center.  Everyone who registers to donate will receive a $10 Speedway gas card, plus the "Step Up to the Plate" t-shirt. Schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call (937) 461-3220.

CBC is observing WBDD by announcing a new online tool for donors to save time while they're helping save lives.

Donors can now use "DonorXPress to move more quickly through the donation process by answering the donor questionnaire online before they arrive for their blood donation. Donors can access DonorXPress on the CBC website at www.givingblood.org/donorxpress.

To use DonorXpress donors must complete the donation questionnaire on the day they intend to donate. They must then bring a digital or printed copy of their Donor Pass to show at donor registration.

WBDD serves as a reminder that it takes a committed, year-round effort to maintain adequate blood and blood product supplies and guarantee universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion.

It also raises awareness of the need for countries around the globe to build a sustainable and resilient national blood donation system.
